For instance, we have a Shepherd's smock, a dress from the Edwardian era, an antique Christening Robe and a greatcoat worn by someone fleeing from Poland during WW2. It may be a small piece of furniture, a toy, or garden implement as well as clothing that you would be willing to lend. There will be someone keeping an eye on the exhibits throughout the event. Will Adams will be with us to talk about the Samaritans, a registerd charity that started in 1953 and serves England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
There's a lot of info online, but these figures really jumped out at me:
In 2017 there were 6,213 suicides in the UK and Ireland
Everyday, 16 people decide to end their own life across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales
In the UK men are three times more likely to take their own lives than women.
No more to be said. Will will be a great speaker and will be accompanied by a fellow Samaritan.
The Club will be making a donation, but if you'd like to bring something along yourself, we'll make sure there's a collection container of some sort.
Members are free and it's just £3 if you're coming as a visitor, incuding refreshments. Everybody is very welcome and we'd love you to come.
